Beyond The Open Door

Everything is waiting, beyond the open door.  Recognizing that door and having the courage to go through it; that’s when our character is revealed and we must confront fear and overcome it.

An event filled with inspiration, entertainment and thoughtfulness, Carl Dixon takes you on a journey as an exciting and dynamic speaker who has come back from the brink, has reinvented himself and will share his personal triumph over what can only be described as a life changing event.

Many of you will know Carl Dixon by name.  If not then you’ll know the music.  Coney Hatch, April Wine, The Guess Who; three iconic Canadian rock bands whose music spans the generations. These are just some of the great musical institutions he’s had the pleasure of being a part of.  Carl had it all.  He had the glamorous rock and roll lifestyle.  Touring North America as the front man of The Guess Who, life was indeed charmed.  Singing and playing the music of his generation to thousands of thrilled and grateful fans each night in some of North America’s most beautiful cities, Carl’s professional high seemed boundless.  His personal commitment to fitness, strength and community living appeared super human.  Then one day it all changed.  While recording music for a television show in Australia, Carl was involved in a catastrophic head-on collision that turned his world upside down. Emergency crews and hospital specialists thought he was a goner, but don’t ever underestimate the human spirit.  They put Carl back together again just like Humpty Dumpty.  But no amount of surgery can rebuild a life. It seemed that nothing was ever going to be same.  But isn’t change good for you?  Well, that’s the question.

Adversity doesn’t build character, it reveals character. Through stories, music, and ever-building insight Carl’s not here to preach but there are some things he thinks he should tell.

"Carl almost instinctively tailored his message to enhance our key message that zero injuries are achievable. He also showed how a few seconds of not focusing on the right thing can result in a life changing experience. "

"His presentation style is engaging and the emotion of his very personal incident captivated the audience which gave him two standing ovations. "

"If your company needs a powerful message mixed in with world-class music for entertainment, then I believe that Carl Dixon may be your best choice – I highly recommend him."

We were in the audience, March 9th in Haliburton for Val Lougheed and Carl Dixon's presentation.

My husband and I woke up the next morning having absorbed all we'd heard and started to talk it over and we both spoke of how the "room" changed at the end of Carl's singing of "Laughing". We were along for the ride and braced ourselves as that song transitioned us into the hard part of the story.
He allowed us to really share in the view of that real life ordeal.....with all his human frailties and infinite hope.
There was one moment where I felt I had to "detach" as I am not entitled to such intimate detail...but since the holder was entrusting me with such vulnerable honesty...I am permitted (and so grateful) to accept it for the gift it is.

Thank you for inviting us to a memorable evening.

Thank you for inviting me to attend Beyond the Open Door with Carl Dixon. The evening surpassed my expectations and made me glad I had braved the snowstorm to attend. Hearing Carl's story was incredibly moving, and the way Carl was able to incorporate his songs into the conversation made the evening a wonderfully meaningful journey. Having the opportunity to hear Carl's music in an intimate, storytelling setting like Beyond the Open Door has made me come to appreciate Carl's talent in a whole new way. I would recommend Beyond the Open Door to anyone who appreciates good music, an inspirational story, and just an all round great evening of entertainment.

To the utter delight of everyone there, Carl wove his beautiful music seamlessly into his talk, providing a depth of feeling one seldom gets to experience first-hand.

I have been working in the field of rehabilitation for the past 33 years, and have been speaking professionally for most of that time. From my perspective as a practitioner-patient-survivor, Carl’s compelling and profound story is engaging, enlightening, and moving. He is well-spoken, intelligent and so very enjoyable to listen to. Carl already knows how to connect with an audience, and his professional grace on-stage is obvious.

Carl’s story is one that I believe everyone must hear
